SPF and PA Explained: How to Read and Use a Sunscreen Label

SPF rates UVB and PA rates UVA. Here is how to read the label, apply sunscreen, take it off at night, and where Daily Airfit Sunscreen ships.

The short answer

What does SPF 50+ PA++++ mean? Two ratings: SPF is the rating for UVB and PA is the rating for UVA, and 50+ and ++++ are the highest bands on Korean labels. Sunscreen is the last skincare step of the morning, applied in a generous amount and reapplied when you sweat, towel off or spend long hours outdoors.

What do SPF and PA mean on a sunscreen label?

If you have wondered what “SPF 50+ PA++++” actually says, it is two separate ratings printed together:

  • SPF is the label rating for UVB. “50+” is the highest band printed in Korea.
  • PA is the label rating for UVA. The more plus signs, the higher the band, and “++++” is the highest.

These are ratings on the label. They do not mean you can skip reapplying, and no sunscreen blocks all UV light, so shade and clothing still count. Labels in other regions may show UVA protection with different wording or symbols, so read the label of whatever you buy where you live.

Where does sunscreen go in your morning routine?

Sunscreen is the last skincare step. Anything you apply after it can dilute it or move it around, so it goes on top of your other steps and before makeup.

  1. Cleanse, with water or a gentle water-based cleanser.
  2. Toner or pads.
  3. Serum. If you use a brightening serum in the morning, such as Dark Spot Solution Vita C TRX Serum, finish with sunscreen.
  4. Cream.
  5. Sunscreen, then wait a minute for it to settle before makeup.

Sunscreen is a daily step, whatever the weather. In the evening it comes off, and it is not part of your night routine.

How much sunscreen, and when to reapply

Use a generous amount over your face, neck and any skin the sun will reach. It is easy to under-apply, so aim for more than a thin film. Reapply after sweating, after towelling your face, and after long hours outdoors. Many sun-care guides suggest roughly every two hours in direct sun; follow the label of the product you use.

How to take sunscreen off at night

Sunscreen is made to stay on all day, so it is the step most often left half-cleansed. After sunscreen, cleanse with an oil first, then a water-based cleanser. On days you also wore makeup, our product team suggests a third step: the Jeju Yuja Balancing Bubble Cleanser after the foam. This applies to any sunscreen you wear, VVBETTER or not.

With Gentle Deep Cleansing Oil, use dry hands and a dry face and press 2–3 pumps into your palm. Massage for about a minute so the oil can take up sunscreen and makeup, add a little warm water until it turns milky, and rinse. Then wash again with a water-based cleanser such as 5.5 Soothing Cleansing Foam: a small amount, about 1–2 cm, worked into a foam in wet palms, massaged for 1–2 minutes and rinsed with lukewarm water.

Daily Airfit Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++, and where it ships

Shipping destinations for this product are shown at checkout. Whichever sunscreen you choose, check the same things on its label: the SPF number, how it states UVA protection, and its directions for amount and reapplication.

Orders of $100 or more ship free to every destination we deliver to. Here is what the product is:

  • A 50 ml tube with SPF 50+ PA++++ printed on it.
  • Four UV-absorbing filters and no mineral filter, so it leaves no white cast.
  • An airy, moisturizing texture that sits under makeup without stickiness.
  • Squalane, panthenol and madecassoside, with glycerin and hyaluronic acid as the moisturizing base.
  • Vegan certified and made in Korea.

Use it every morning as the last skincare step, in a generous amount over face and neck. If your skin reacts easily, or you are new to UV-absorbing filters, patch-test on the jawline for two days first, and rinse right away if it gets into your eyes. The product guide has the full details, and the product page shows whether it can be added to your cart.
