The short answer
A skincare routine does not need ten steps. Start with the three jobs every routine has to do: cleanse, moisturize and, in the morning, protect your skin from the sun. Then add one extra step at a time, only when you can say what it is for. The orders below are starting orders that you can shorten on any day.
The three jobs a routine has to do
Korean skincare is often described as a long list of steps, but the steps are only a way of sorting jobs. Once you know the jobs, you can decide which ones you need today. Most people need three: wash off the day, keep the skin comfortable with a moisturizer, and use sunscreen before going out. Everything else is optional and can be added later.
| Job | Do you need it? | Example from the VVBETTER range |
|---|---|---|
| Cleanse | Yes, at least once a day | 5.5 Soothing Cleansing Foam, a low-pH (5.5) soothing foam with centella |
| Moisturize | Yes, morning and evening | Teca Lifting Moisture Cream (Blue) or Jeju Yuja Cera Balancing Cream (Green) |
| Sun protection | Yes, last step of the morning | Any sunscreen you like to wear (see the note below) |
| Toner or pad | Optional | AHA Boosting Toner (mild AHA & BHA) or Jeju Yuja Balancing Pad |
| Serum | Optional, added for a reason | Teca Lifting Moisture Serum, or the Solution serums REGLOW, REWIND and REFINE; 2–3 drops from the dropper |
| Oil cleanser, masks, eye cream | Optional, on the days they apply | Gentle Deep Cleansing Oil, mud or Squalane masks, Firming Eye Cream (all Purple Line) |
One note on sunscreen: VVBETTER's Daily Airfit Sunscreen is not offered in the United States, so for the morning step use a sunscreen you already know and like.
Where the three lines fit
VVBETTER sorts its range by what each line is for.
| Line | Its role | Written for | Steps in the line |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Line | Base skincare: HYDRATION, soothing and the skin barrier | Dry, sensitive or dehydrated skin | 5.5 Soothing Cleansing Foam, AHA Boosting Toner, Teca Lifting Moisture Serum, Teca Lifting Moisture Cream |
| Purple Line | Extra skincare: firmness, ELASTICITY and REGENERATION | Skin that wants more, including mature skin | Firming Eye Cream, Gentle Deep Cleansing Oil, Gentle Purifying Mud Mask, Rejuvenating Squalane Mask |
| Green Line (Jeju Yuja) | Purify and balance: BALANCE, TEXTURE CARE and the skin barrier | Oily, combination or sensitive skin | Jeju Yuja Balancing Pad, Cera Balancing Cream, Balancing Bubble Cleanser, Succinic Balancing Serum |
In practice, build the first routine from the base: Blue Line foam and cream cover the cleanse and moisturize jobs. Add Purple Line extras, such as an eye cream, on top, and reach for Green Line steps if your skin runs oily; the Cera Balancing Cream can be your moisturizer. The Solution serums (REGLOW, REWIND, REFINE) are single-purpose additions to any line.
A first routine you can finish in five minutes
This is the smallest routine that still covers all three jobs. It uses two Blue Line products, the base skincare line, and the sunscreen you already have.
Morning
- Cleanse. Squeeze about 1–2 cm of 5.5 Soothing Cleansing Foam into wet palms and work it into a foam. Massage the face for 1–2 minutes, keep it away from the eyes, and rinse with lukewarm water. The foam is a low-pH (5.5) cleanser with centella.
- Moisturize. Scoop a pea-sized amount of Teca Lifting Moisture Cream with the spatula, smooth it over face and neck and massage gently in circles until it is absorbed. Add a little more on areas that feel dry. It is built on centella asiatica extract with hyaluronic acid and peptides, for hydration and the skin barrier.
- Protect. Finish with sunscreen, and put makeup on after it.
Evening
- Cleanse. Use the foam again. On a day when you wore makeup or sunscreen, start with Gentle Deep Cleansing Oil on dry hands and a dry face (2–3 pumps, about a minute, then a little warm water until it turns milky) and follow with the foam.
- Moisturize. The same cream, the same pea-sized amount.

Do this for a while before changing anything. A routine that is easy to repeat tells you more about your skin than a routine that looks complete on the shelf. That is what we mean by mindful skincare: a few steps, each one used with attention. The dot above the V in VVBETTER stands for a moment of focus, and the evening cleanse is a good place to take one.
How to add a step without losing track
When the basics feel comfortable, you can add one product. These habits keep the change easy to read.
- Name the reason first. “It looked good in a video” is not a reason to add a toner; “my skin feels rough where I put on makeup” is.
- Patch-test. Dab a little on the jawline for two nights before it goes on your whole face. This is the instruction on the product pages for the acid toner, the serums and the cream, and it is a good habit for anything new.
- Add one thing at a time. If you add a serum and a toner in the same week and your skin feels off, you will not know which one it was. About a week between additions is a common pace.
- Start gently with acids. If you are new to exfoliating acids, or use retinoids or other acids, use the AHA Boosting Toner every other day at first, on a cotton pad rather than as a soaked pack, and wear sunscreen the next morning.
- Write it down. One line per day is enough; the routine diary guide shows how.
Which step to add first
Match the addition to your own question rather than to a trend.
| If your question is… | Consider adding… | How it is used |
|---|---|---|
| My skin feels tight after washing | Nothing yet; check your cleanser and moisturizer first | The foam is pH 5.5; rinse with lukewarm water rather than hot |
| I wear makeup or sunscreen most days | An oil cleanser in the evening | Oil on dry skin first, then the foam |
| My skin feels rough or looks uneven under makeup | AHA Boosting Toner | Cotton pad, dry face and neck, avoid the eyes; every other day to start |
| My skin gets oily or shiny, or I am prone to breakouts | A Green Line step: Jeju Yuja Balancing Pad or Cera Balancing Cream | Pad swept over a clean face before your cream |
| I want an extra step for firmness and elasticity | A Purple Line step: Firming Eye Cream, or a mask on mask days | Eye cream dotted around the eyes after your cream |
| I want to focus on one visible concern | One of the Solution serums | 2–3 drops after toner, before cream |
If you are unsure which concern to start with, the skin quiz and the routine builder narrow it down.
When skin feels tight, hot or itchy
A new routine should feel comfortable. If your skin feels tight, stings or looks red, go back one step rather than adding a product to fix it.
- Stop the newest product first. Keep the cleanser and moisturizer.
- If you were using an acid toner every day, drop to every other day, or pause it.
- Rinse with lukewarm water, and use a thin layer of moisturizer.
- If redness, swelling, itching or other irritation appears, stop using the product and consult a clinician or skin specialist. Do not use products on broken or irritated skin.
- Email customer care with the product name and how you used it; we are happy to look at it with you.
Quick answers
Do I have to follow a ten-step Korean routine?
No. The steps are options, not requirements. Plenty of people use a cleanser, a moisturizer and sunscreen, and add a serum or toner only when there is a reason. K-beauty beyond the ten-step stereotype goes into that more.
In what order do I apply products?
Generally from the thinnest, most watery product to the richest: cleanser, toner or pad, serum, moisturizer, and then sunscreen in the morning. The morning and evening shelf guide lays the order out for both halves of the day.
Can I skip steps on a busy day?
Yes. On a rushed evening, a cleanse and a moisturizer is a complete routine. If you wore makeup or sunscreen, keep the oil cleanse so nothing stays on your skin overnight.
