The short answer

Jeju Yuja Cera Balancing Cream is a light, cool-feeling gel-cream for normal-to-oily skin, including skin that is prone to breakouts, and for skin that is sensitive and short of moisture at the same time. Its key points are ceramides, Jeju yuja, zinc PCA, and peppermint and tea tree oil, with ceramide capsules at 0.5% (5,000 ppm) and MOISTURE TM B at 0.5% (5,000 ppm), and it goes on as the last step before sunscreen, morning and evening.

Who the Cera Balancing Cream suits

Most creams are designed for dry skin and feel heavy on skin that gets shiny by noon. This one is built the other way round: a water-type gel-cream that absorbs lightly and does not leave shine behind. It sits in the Green Line (Jeju Yuja), the VVBETTER line for purifying and balance, made for oily, combination and breakout-prone skin that also tends to be sensitive. The cream is labelled for all skin types and specially for sensitive skin, and the idea behind the line is a balanced blend of ingredients that stays gentle even on sensitive skin, with at least six months of development behind every product.

It is a good match if you recognise yourself in one of these:

  • You skip moisturizer because creams feel greasy, but your skin feels tight after cleansing.
  • Your skin gets oily and easily reacts, and you want one cream that does not need a heavy base.
  • You are in your late teens to thirties and your skin runs normal-to-oily, with the odd breakout.

It is less obviously the right fit if your skin is mostly dry. In that case, layer it over a serum rather than using it alone (more on that below), or look at the Teca Lifting Moisture Cream. Not sure which group you fall into? The skin quiz takes a few questions.

What is inside, in plain language

The tube names three highlights: zinc PCA, MOISTURE TM B and ceramide NP. VVBETTER files the cream under skin barrier, trouble care (for skin prone to breakouts), cooling and balance. Here is what each ingredient is and why it is in the formula. Where VVBETTER publishes an amount, it is shown. Where an amount is not published, the table says so rather than guessing.

Ingredient Amount What it is and why it is here
Ceramide NP, in ceramide capsules 0.5% (5,000 ppm) of capsules Ceramide NP is a skin-identical lipid. It is held in microcapsules so the cream can stay a light gel, and ceramides are there to support the skin barrier. As you spread the cream, the capsules melt into the skin and stay on the surface for longer, so there is no need for a heavy base.
MOISTURE TM B (patented ingredient from the raw-material supplier, Korean patent No. 10-2512471) 0.5% (5,000 ppm) A high-molecular-weight plant complex from yam, okra, lotus root and aloe vera leaf. It forms a thin moisture film on the skin, which is why the cream hydrates without feeling sticky.
Jeju yuja extract (Citrus junos fruit extract) Listed, amount not published A citrus extract from Jeju Island, and the line's signature ingredient.
Centella asiatica, houttuynia (Houttuynia cordata) and holy basil leaf extracts Listed, amount not published Plant extracts included for skin that feels reactive.
Zinc PCA Listed, amount not published A zinc salt used here to help keep the look of oil in balance.
Tea tree leaf oil and peppermint oil 0.01% each Tea tree is a traditional pick for skin prone to breakouts, and peppermint adds the cooling feel. Both are used in a small amount. The amount was chosen so the cream can be used every day.
Panthenol, squalane, sodium hyaluronate, beta-glucan Listed, amounts not published Hydrating and softening ingredients that keep the finish comfortable rather than tight.

The full ingredient list also names several other plant extracts, including three mushrooms (shiitake, maitake and button mushroom), kelp and aloe leaf extract. There is no separate fragrance entry on the list, but the tea tree and peppermint oils have their own scent, which is worth knowing if you are sensitive to essential oils. If you want to read the list the way a professional would, the journal has a piece on reading an ingredient list before checkout.

Texture and what it feels like

The cream is a pale-green, translucent gel-cream with a cool, fresh, water-type feel. It spreads easily, absorbs lightly and leaves no shine. The cooling sensation comes from the peppermint oil, and the tea tree oil adds to the fresh finish; it is a feel, not a sign that something is working harder.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Cleanse and prepare. Cleanse, then use your toner or pad and any serum. The cream always comes after these.
  2. Squeeze out an amount that covers the face thinly. If your skin is sensitive, start with a little and add more only if the skin still feels dry.
  3. Spread across the whole face and pat gently until it has absorbed.
  4. In the morning, finish with sunscreen. The cream is the last step before it.
  5. Use it twice a day, every day. The formula is made for daily use.

Patch test and when to go slowly

No product suits every skin, so test first. Apply a small amount along the jawline for two days before using it on the whole face. Take extra care, and test for longer, if you:

  • react to essential oils such as tea tree or peppermint;
  • have had a professional skin treatment recently.

If you notice redness, swelling or itching during or after use, stop using it and consult a specialist. Keep it away from broken or irritated skin, store it in a cool place out of direct sunlight, and use it within 12 months of opening. Unopened, it keeps for 36 months from the manufacture date.

Where it sits in a routine

The Green Line routine runs cleanse, tone, serum, moisturize. The cream is the moisturize step:

Step Morning Evening
1. Cleanse Balancing Bubble Cleanser, or water only on a bare-skin morning Bubble Cleanser (cleansing oil first if you wore makeup or sunscreen)
2. Tone Balancing Pad Balancing Pad
3. Serum Succinic Balancing Serum Succinic Balancing Serum
4. Moisturize Cera Balancing Cream Cera Balancing Cream
5. Protect Sunscreen Not needed

You do not need all five steps. The cream works fine after a toner and nothing else, and for most oily and combination skin it is enough on its own as the last step before sunscreen. If your skin is oily but also dry in places, put it over the Teca Lifting Moisture Serum or the Bakuchiol PDRN Serum.

How it differs from the others in the Green Line

Each Green Line product has one job, and the cream's job is the closing one. The Bubble Cleanser cleanses, the Balancing Pad tones, the Succinic Serum is the step in between, and the cream finishes with a light hydrating layer. All of them share the line's building blocks (Jeju yuja extract, zinc PCA), and the cream and the pad also share the same MOISTURE TM B at 0.5% (5,000 ppm). If you only add one product to a routine you already have, add the step you are missing, not the one that sounds most interesting. The brand's own phrase for this kind of routine is "every day, very very better": one steady step, repeated, rather than a heavier product. The journal piece Meet the gel-cream covers this texture in more depth.

Quick answers

Is the Cera Balancing Cream enough for oily skin?

For most oily and combination skin, yes. Use it as the last step before sunscreen. If your skin is also dry, layer it over a serum.

Can I use it every day?

Yes. The peppermint oil and tea tree leaf oil are each at 0.01%, a small amount chosen for daily use. Very sensitive skin should read the ingredient list and patch-test first.

Is it vegan, and has it been tested for irritation?

It is certified vegan by the Vegan Standard Certification International Institution, and it completed a skin low-irritation test. That is not a promise that it suits every skin, so patch-test.

Can I use it with the Balancing Pad and the Succinic serum?

Yes, that is the Green Line routine: Bubble Cleanser, Balancing Pad, Succinic Balancing Serum, then this cream.
